Rev. Samuel P. Pettagrue, Jr.
A native of Atlanta Georgia, Samuel P. Pettagrue, Jr. was born
to Dr. and Mrs. Samuel P. Pettagrue, Sr. He was educated in the
New York and Atlanta public school systems. He received his undergraduate
degree in Philosophy and Sociology from Morehouse College in
Atlanta, Georgia. Also, he received his Masters of Divinity from
the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. He continued his
studies at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Birmingham
Seminary, Morehouse School of Religion, and Emory University
Rev. Samuel P. Pettagrue, Jr. has taught as ad hoc professor
at Sanford University and Birmingham Baptist Bible College. He
is on the Board of Directors at Livingston University and Montreat-Anderson
College. He is the past president of the Metro Ministry Association
of Birmingham, State Board of Member of the Southern Christian
Leadership Conference, a Leadership Birmingham Alumnus- Class
of 1985, and Board Member of the Baptist Foundation
He was the Administrative Assistant to Dr. Ralph David Abernathy,
Pastor of West Hunter Baptist Church, as well as the Executive
Director and Founder of Sardis Development Center. He has been
a lecturer at Miles College, Birmingham Southern College, Lawson
State Junior College, and Alabama State College.
He was affiliated with the Birmingham Baptist Ministers Association,
the SCLC, Hungry Club of the YMCA, NAACP, Leadership Birmingham,
Sixth Congressional District Advisory Committee, and JCCEO. Also,
he was the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Childrens
Village (Birmingham).
As the Senior Pastor of Sardis Missionary Baptist Church,
he shepherds over 3,000 members and over 50 ministries.
He and his wife, Beverly, have one son, Brandon.
